It can be so hard to get out of the house without my toddler. Literally! Finding adult ways to bond with your family, co workers, spouse and friends can be so simple but hard. As we were leaving to head to Breakout Games  A was dying to go with us. Understanding to a four year old is an ancient word. I was literally running out of the house.

Lately I’ve been hearing all about escape rooms and how they’re all the rave. I figured it would be a great bonding experience with my family and husband. When I heard about Breakout Games LLC and how close to home they are I just had to go. If your into secrets, racing against the clock and working together this type of activity is for you. Plus they sell out so quick. Who would’ve known. You do need to register for your game online.

Breakout Games LLC has 61 locations throughout the United States. I was able to attend the Boston based location which is located in Woburn, Massachusetts. Currently at the Boston location they offer The KidnappingMuseum HeistOperation Casino, and Hostage. They have all the descriptions HERE in case you were wondering what each entailed. We decided to choose the Kidnapping scenario. I’m a huge horror fan so it just seemed to fit.

Arrival & Check In

Breakout Boston Logo

Our scheduled Breakout was at 1:00pm EST. You get greeted by one of the employees which are virtually with you the entire time. You are highly encourage to arrive 15 minutes early. Before you can enter you do need to sign a waiver. You are able to sign one online which you receive with your booking confirmation. You’re also able to fill one out once you arrive at the entrance. It’s super easy. It’s completely up to you. They also ask you and highly encourage to use the bathroom just in case, so you don’t have to leave during your game.

Walk Through The Door

I attended with my husband and four other family members. The associate went over everything: rules, tricks, clues, breaks and time if we need it.  The Kidnapping is all about being locked in a room and trying to let loose before the kidnapper comes back. You are blind folded and handcuffed to a bed in the dark. We actually got out of quite quickly. I was pretty surprised. Soon after we were picking up clues and combinations. Every 15 minutes you receive a warning on a television in the room your in, about how much time you have left. When that happens a switch almost goes off.

Clues

You are able to ask for clues if needed. By the end of the game our guide told us, for our first time we actually did pretty well. We only really asked for two big clues.

How It Went

We couldn’t take pictures inside while playing the actual game. We officially made it out within 58:58. Just within the hour. In the last 15 minutes we kind of struggled but we came together and made it happen. Some clues we found in the beginning we didn’t use until the end vice versa.

If you’ve been mulling over trying an escape room now is the time.

This totally freaks me out. I had a near kidnapping experience when I was young, and I don’t think I would be able to manage it. However, it does sound intriguing!

This would be fun and definitely a lot of teamwork but a fun activity and game to do with friends and even family.

Yes definitely. If you have one around you I highly recommend it.

These places always sound fun but I really don’t think I could handle them. If I felt like I couldn’t escape I would have a major panic attack! Not fun for my teammates! LOL!

I heard about this game too and I think this is so exciting! Although I can’t imagine if I can do this game haha

I’ve done this as a team building activity but would love to with my own family! I could see my brother getting extremely competitive!

Haha yes. My husbands cousin was super competitive.

I don’t know if I could handle the blindfold and handcuffing. I might need to take some anti-anxiety medicine to deal with being locked in a room, but it’s worth the sacrifice because this sounds like a lot of fun.

These are becoming a new trend all over the world. We have several here in Sweden too! (I am not sure that I could handle them. I think my anxiety would be a huge problem.) While i may not be able to handle them, my wife and her brothers love them! So they went and did one for her brothers birthday a few months back and had a blast!

Looks like you had a great time, with friends, and that is what really counts! 🙂
