How to be a happy stay at home mom

These past six months have been different for myself and family as well have changed direction for Thrifty Haute Mom. I’ve become a stay at home mom. In between my style, routine and our budget. I will say, I first tried it when was a newborn but it turned out to be slightly different. I suffered from post partum depression which led me to wanting to go back to work. I didn’t work in my career as I’m still in school. Ironically PR. For many of you that don’t know is one of the jobs and the other side of what bloggers go through when wanting to work with brands (a better word for company). I’ve always worked so sometimes I forget I’m not always the contributor.

As I mentioned earlier I didn’t work in my career but at the same job for over three years. After a while I became unhappy as I realized an office job just isn’t for me. The company I was working for was downsizing. Plus received the opportunity to start pre-k Mon-Fri part time during the mornings. I would have no time with him. Plus The cost of child care in Mass is the cost of ones mortgage so we made the decision for me to stay home. It only made sense. These were my main reasons the second time around. I also took in account other reasons. Working another job: the time, travel gas etc how much would actually be put towards bills and what wouldn’t. This blog has been helping me making an income thank you to its viewers, sponsors and brands that make it possible.

Reasons on how to be a happy stay at home mom:

Take time to yourself: Always take a day or even night. It can be by yourself or a girls night. Whatever you need to unwind. We always know what it is for kids to drive you crazy.

Find a hobby or just something you love to do: For me it is this blog. I mainly blog about how to live the Haute life for less with fashion, beauty, travel and reviews. It doesn’t have to be something that brings in income. It can be nice that you are bringing in extra income. Later on your hobby can even become your job which may even let you become a work at home mom. Many bloggers do this into their year two or more. Like they always say love what you do.

Ask for help: When was little my husband and I lived in a small apartment in my hometown. Now that we live with my in laws it feels a bit better. One thing I didn’t do was ask for help much. Now that he’s a little older. Those times that he drives us a little crazy.

Playgroups: I will say if they aren’t in pre-k this is something I would recommend. I’m not sure if I’m just a boy mom or what but A is so attached to me. We don’t know that many kids around us but lately every time we go to the park, public or community place he isn’t that far from making friends.

Love your time spent: Eventually they will go to school full time and you will dedicate your time doing other things aside from taking care of your children.

Are you a stay at home mom? What are your tips?

I’ve stayed home, worked part time and full time at various seasons of my kids’ lives. They all have their ups and downs, right? Your list is a good reminder that moms have to take care of themselves too. I also liked your suggestions about play groups. When I stayed home full time, it was pretty isolating and I would have done better with a community around me

Definitely I had that issue when staying home at first. We only had one car, barely any place to walk to so I felt so isolated as well. Plus all my friends either had children fresh out of high school or where in their careers with no kids.

I love this! I am a SAHM, have been for three years now when I left nursing in the hospital because we went from 1 to 5 kids and omg yes! MA’s childcare costs are INSANE! Wasn’t happening! I absolutely agree, you need time for yourself and to enjoy the time you get!
